Letters to Myself 3

Letters to Myself is an exercise in forcing myself to step back and look at Vaibhav Gupta. I use it to track what I’ve done while learning to love myself.

Dear Vaibhav,

Well done. I’m surprised, but well done! You changed my mind, this week, quite literally.

Starting back from last Thursday, you whiled away¬†Thursday evening, the holiday on Friday, and Saturday. The difference is – you did it with friends, and so it was nice, and didn’t make me want to hit you. You taught your friend some cooking basics, and yourself made dahi-aloo for the first time (surprised we’d never done it before – so simple). Plus you got the sweet new set of track pants for dance class, so winning.

Ah dance class. What great workouts on Monday and Wednesday. I want you to stick to this program – it’s working well for you, and you clearly enjoy it, whether you want to admit it or not. Having the upcoming show is motivation enough to work out and lose weight.¬†You didn’t do any other workouts this week though, so that is something to plan ahead for next week, but it’s okay. I’m not mad about it.

You got the Kannada classes started via KannadaGottila. It seems simple so far; let’s see where that goes. You haven’t done Spanish in the last few days – you should pay attention to that and do it. Perhaps schedule it in the mornings instead of the evenings, it’s just 20 minutes of practice. But it’s okay. I’m not mad about it.

I’m not mad because on Sunday, you read that wonderful article, on Buzzfeed of all places. You’ve been telling others and yourself for years now that it is okay to be sad, but I never believed it. I don’t know why, but I never did, and whenever you became sad, I would be sad that you were down, and it would be a big stinking mess.

It wasn’t like it was a life-changing article for me, but I just … changed. Whether I’ve changed permanently remains to be seen, but for now I don’t get sad when you do, and that’s a crapload of pressure off your shoulders.

You also finally pulled out a book from your reserve of unread books. Looking forward to congratulating you for reading it or scolding you for not.

Let’s also address the house decoration. The new wall decals look amazing. The tiny new speaker you got from Amazon is dope – listening to music is fun again. A bed is on its way. Maybe now cut back on the spending for a while.

Finally, this entire week you’ve talked about scheduling posts for the blog so you can have sleep at night. DO IT PRONTO.
