#RecipeLab: Daal Week 4 – Luchi, Aloo Dum, Chana Daal

Daal Week 4 – A bengali delicacy – sweet chana daal with luchi and spicy aloo dum. | Check back in the 4th week of every month for new recipes.

Daal Week 4:  I may have posted this dish on the blog before, but never the recipe. It’s a Bengali preparation, and my mom makes these items particularly well. I poached the recipe from her, but she didn’t want her (highly appreciated) chana daal recipe up on the internet, so I improvised a few things and made my own. #RecipeLab: Daal Week 3 – Daal Burgers (Chicken)

Daal Week 3 2nd recipe – Chicken daal burgers. Seems crazy but really works well! | Check back in the 4th week of every month for new recipes.

Daal Week 3:  Stay with me here. Burgers are in my top favorite foods, and I eat a lot of them. If you subscribe to the fast food mentality of a burger being some iceberg lettuce, some mayonnaise, and 1 deep fried patty, you’re seriously missing out.

Burgers are a super customizable meal, and you can mix a lot of textures and flavours to make a mouthgasm-inducing meal. Daals don’t have too much flavour in them by themselves, but they do provide amazing texture.

Building around that and bringing out flavour, I’ve made two burger combinations – this post details the Chicken one.

Before I talk more about the dish, and customizations, here’s the recipe (serves 1).

#RecipeLab: Daal Week 3 – Daal Burgers (Veg)

Daal Week 3 1st recipe – Vegetarian daal burgers. Seems crazy but really works well! | Check back in the 4th week of every month for new recipes.

#RecipeLab: Daal Week 2 – Daal and Besan Chillas

Daal Week 2 – Daal, besan, and matar chilla. The second recipe from the first #RecipeLab | Check back in the 4th week of every month for new recipes.

Daal Week 2: This was the first dish I made for Daal Week, and honestly I was so under-confident about being good enough to give recipes to people that I had been putting it off forever. Once I ate this though, I loved this so much that I felt I would be proud to put this out for your consumption.

A chilla is a savoury pancake made from lentils or gram flour.

Before I talk more about the dish, and customizations, here’s the recipe (serves 1-2). Continue reading “#RecipeLab: Daal Week 2 – Daal and Besan Chillas”

#RecipeLab: Daal Week 1 – Mixed daal and Chawal

Daal Week 1 – Pulav and mixed daal. The first recipe from the first #RecipeLab | Check back in the 4th week of every month for new recipes.

Daal Week 1: Not much screams staple more than daal and chawal (lentils and rice). It’s what anyone who is starting to cook should make, because it’s hard to get wrong, and because it is simple and comforting. The recipe I’ve presented simply builds on the basics.

Before I talk more about the dish, and customizations, here’s the recipe (serves 2-3).
